CASH FOR YOUR COLLECTIBLES |
TRADES CONSIGNMENT FOR AUCTION | CONSIGNMENT FOR SALE
If you have posters or other collectibles you are trying to sell or are willing to trade, there are several ways you can work with us.
Generally speaking, we think most clients will do best - get the most for whatever they have to offer - if they consign their holdings to us for retail sale, and are willing to wait for the market to come to their preferred price. Desirable pieces do sometimes sell quickly - sometimes as soon as the collecting world knows they are available, but it is more often true that patience pays off: Consignors may sometimes do better on the sale of just one or a few valuable pieces than they would selling the entire collection at once, whether on auction or in exchange for a cash payment.
Collectors and dealers who are just thinning out excess holdings, but are still interested in adding elsewhere, should seriously consider trades, especially if what they have to offer happens to complement (rather than largely overlap) our current holdings.
CASH FOR YOUR COLLECTIBLES
If you just do not have the patience for consignment (even a short-term consignment for auction), and if you are not interested in working up a trade, we may be able to offer you cash for your holdings. Photographs, descriptions focusing on condition, and anything you can tell us about where the items came from will be helpful. In many instances, we simply will not be able to complete a deal until we have been able to see what you are offering for ourselves.
TRADES
We are happy to consider your trade offers, so long as you understand that, in order to stay in business, we cannot offer simple 1 to 1, $25 poster for $25 poster exchanges (or, to be honest, anything very close). Still, if you're ready to part with some items from your collection, and looking to add one or a few pieces you see in our store, or maybe if you're a dealer looking to establish some balance, we encourage to make us an offer we can't refuse. A good way to start the process is to put together a Wish List, and send it to us along with a description - as detailed as possible - of whatever you might have to offer. In some instances, where we happen to have multiple copies of a highly desirable item in inventory, we can be very generous, but keep in mind that our interest in trades will always be to "trade up" wherever possible in quality, desirability, and rarity.
CONSIGNMENT FOR AUCTION
If your time frame for whatever reason is too narrow to let the market come up to you, consignment for auction is the best way to generate short-term returns. Some clients will set a short-term or periodic cash target, designating a set portion of their holdings for auction sales, while holding fast on the remainder. Our main venue for auctions is eBay, where we are able to offer professional quality listings, auction management, and fulfillment backed by 100% positive feedback and Power Seller status, with the prominence and cross-promotions afforded to a Featured Store with an established clientele. Our auctions are also announced and promoted off-eBay at ckmac.com and at collector forums and web sites.
CONSIGNMENT FOR SALE
For the majority of collectors seeking to maximize their return on whatever holdings they've decided to dissolve, consignment for sale is the best option. Our commission rates are highly competitive, and can be tailored to suit your individual needs and your holdings - and they represent a percentage of mutually agreed-upon market or high-market prices, not the downmarket or "distress" prices typically achieved at auction.
It can be difficult if not impossible even for an experienced and respected auctioneer to get a fair retail price for an item offered on eBay or other auction sites, and unknown sellers will often have to settle for 10 cents on the dollar or less. Placing items with major auctioneers and auction houses will often entail up front costs, waiting periods, and rejection of materials that, though desirable and highly saleable on the retail market, are still deemed impossible to auction profitably.
Items consigned to CK MacLeod Collectibles will be offered at ckmac.com and also at Googlebase as soon as they've been graded, photographed, and priced. They can also be made available at premium prices on our Featured eBay store. We submit all of our listings to major search engines, and we announce all new listings at collector websites and on collector mailing lists, and through our own eBay and ckmac.com newsletters. Further exposure is obtained via Google ad-words and other advertising.
Pricing is something we take very seriously. We don't pretend to offer collectibles at the lowest prices you can find, but we don't make a point of looking down on our customers (or taking advantage of "newbies") from the top of the market either. We gather price histories from various on-line and print repositories, but don't hesitate to apply our own judgment when, as sometimes occurs, they fail to recognize the rarity or aesthetic interest of a particular piece. In the end, however, the consignor gets the final word. If we think you're demanding too little or too much, we'll let you know, and we'll let you know why.
